About
Money decisions, worked out.
Parent Money Maths explains the money decisions that come with family life: the £100k childcare cliff edge, the Child Benefit charge, bonuses, going part-time, pensions, mortgages and student loans.
Most money content gives you an answer. We'd rather show you the working. Every calculator and worked example sets out the sum one line at a time, so you can follow it, check it, and see exactly where your own situation would change the answer.
How we work
- Show the working. Every result comes with the steps behind it.
- Key scenarios, real rules. Examples follow common situations with realistic numbers, worked through with the actual 2026/27 rules.
- Plain words. No jargon where an everyday word will do, and no hype. There are no "hacks" here, just the rules and how they fit together.
- Explain, never instruct. We set out the numbers and the trade-offs. What you do with them is your call.
Your numbers stay yours
The calculators run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us or stored anywhere, and you don't need an account.
What we cover
Figures use 2026/27 income tax and National Insurance rates for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scottish income tax is different, and the funded childcare hours we describe are England's scheme. Each page says what it assumes.
We update the calculators when the rules change, for example after a Budget.
