The small print
Disclaimer
Everything on Parent Money Maths is general information, not financial advice.
The calculators and worked examples explain how UK tax, benefit, pension and student loan rules fit together, using simplified models and illustrative scenarios. They are not a recommendation to do anything, and they don't take account of your full circumstances.
What the calculators assume
- 2026/27 income tax and National Insurance rates for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Scottish income tax is different.
- Funded childcare hours are England's scheme. Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own.
- Employed income only, unless a calculator says otherwise.
- Projections into the future, such as investment growth, pay rises and inflation, are assumptions. Investments can fall as well as rise, and past returns don't predict future ones.
Each calculator lists the figures and assumptions it uses at the bottom of the page.
Before you act
Rules change, and your situation may include things a calculator doesn't model. Check the official rules on GOV.UK, and speak to a regulated financial adviser before making decisions about pensions, investments or your mortgage. You can find one through MoneyHelper, which also offers free, impartial guidance.
Accuracy
We work hard to keep the figures right and update them when the rules change. Even so, mistakes can happen. If you spot one, please tell us on Instagram at @parentmoneymaths or by email at parentmoneymaths@gmail.com.
